OSCE organizes study visit to Germany on methane emissions monitoring and reporting for Turkmenistan's representatives
Methane emissions monitoring and reporting in line with the Global Methane Pledge requirements were discussed during an OSCE-supported study visit to Berlin, Germany, that took place from 27 to 29 May 2025. Representatives from the State Concern “Turkmengas” and the Ministry of Environmental protection of Turkmenistan participated in the visit.
The OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, jointly with the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), organized the visit to facilitate the exchange of best practices and innovative approaches to methane management.
The delegation members gained insights into successful methane reduction strategies during their meetings at the Federal Ministry for Economy and Energy, the German Environment Agency and other relevant institutions. They also visited AIRMO, a company dealing with methane emission monitoring, and had a unique opportunity to participate in a Methane Monitoring live demonstration at Gas Monitoring Station. Participants also gained insights of AIRMO’s methane leak detection and repair (LDAR) service.
“The visit is part of the Centre’s continuous support in the area of reduction and management of methane emissions,” said Olivera Zurovac-Kuzman, Economic and Environmental Officer of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
“We firmly believe that the visit will contribute to the enhanced capacity of Turkmenistan’s experts to effectively implement commitments related to the Global Methane Pledge,” she added.
During the visit, representatives from Turkmenistan engaged in discussions with their German counterparts focusing on the EU legislation and regulatory requirements regarding methane emissions and German experiences in developing and implementing methane emission reduction policies in relevant sectors. The role of standards and certification in reducing methane emissions was also addressed.
