FMdFM Meet Prime Minister To Push For Fair Funding

First Minister Michelle O'Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly met with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, emphasising the importance of continued engagement on critical issues impacting Northern Ireland.

Their discussions covered next month's Spending Review, ongoing budgetary challenges, Welfare Reform, international trade tariffs, and the EU-UK reset deal.

First Minister Michelle O'Neill stated that the "constructive meeting" allowed them to address key issues affecting their people and economy. She highlighted the impact of "long-term underfunding on our public services" and pressed the Prime Minister for a "fair funding model" to enable investment and meet public needs. O'Neill also underscored the necessity of considering Northern Ireland's unique circumstances and priorities in future trade negotiations to reduce barriers to growth.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly echoed the constructive nature of the discussion, particularly regarding the EU-UK Trade Deal. She stressed the importance of "removing bureaucracy for our businesses" and reminded the Prime Minister that "Northern Ireland's interests are protected and that the UK Government must do their bit to remove red tape and support our businesses." The Ministers also participated in a joint meeting with other Devolved Administrations, followed by the Council of the Nations and Regions meeting, where they discussed driving growth through trade and AI opportunities, including AI's role in public sector reform.
