Visit Mercer County debuts free digital passport for art and outdoor lovers
MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - Whether you’re into art or the trails of nature, the new “Arts and Outdoor Adventures Digital Passport” lets you explore both.
Jamie Null, Executive Director of Visit Mercer County Tourism, says it blends the best of both worlds.
“We are very proud to introduce an arts and outdoor adventure passport and what it does it combines art and outdoors in Mercer County, and so you can sign up for the passport and it’s going to give you 20 places that you can go, and you check in.”
Checking in is simple.
Outdoor locations verify your location through GPS, while art venues offer a special code to enter.
Each check-in earns you points for prizes—from stickers to custom picnic blankets and more.
Null says it’s a great way to rediscover your own backyard.
“We really want locals to do it because we want you to explore where you live, and sometimes we’re so busy with work and all the things that we have to do that we forget to take advantage of what Mercer County has to offer.”
Null also hopes it gets people moving and sharing the experience with others.
“This is a great way to get people moving throughout the county. It’s a great way to introduce some things that they might have forgotten about and then two, when you know when you have people that visit you like friends and family that come, this is something you can do with them and take them to those places and check in and do as a family.”
