Poland's low-cost clothing and household commodities chain Pepco will open its first store in Lithuania in Marijampole, southwestern part of the country, informs LETA/BNS.

Within the coming months, Pepco will also open stores in Panevezys, Alytus, Vilnius and Kaunas, with plans to open a total of 50 stores and hire more than 400 people over the next three months, Pepco said in a press release.

"Lithuania's market is very important for our trademark, we expect our offers draw the attention of buyers. We are fully convinced that opening of the first Pepco store is just the start of a long tour of the Baltic states," said Marcin Stanko, executive chief for Central and Eastern Europe at Pepco.

Established in 2004, Pepco operates more than 1,200 stores in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania. It has staff of 11,000 people.

The Pepco trademark is owned by Steinhoff International Holding, shares of which are traded on the Frankfurt stock exchange.
