Pepco discounter to expand to Latvia in 2018

Pepco, a chain of discount stores selling clothing and households goods in Central and Eastern European countries, plans to open 12 stores in Latvia in 2018, the retailer’s representatives told LETA.

The company’s representatives said that the first Pepco stores would open in Riga in March next year. Pepco plans to open 12 stores in Latvia by the end of 2018 and to increase their number to 30 by 2020.

 

Pepco plans to employ more than 200 people in its Latvian chain. The stores will be located in various regions of Latvia, mainly in cities with more than 10,000 residents. The company is currently looking for property owners to negotiate a lease of 500 square meters large premises.

 

Pepco does not intend to set up franchises, the representatives said.

 

The company’s representatives also informed that Pepco stores sell clothes, underwear, accessories, toys, home interior products, textiles and other goods. Clothing makes up around 60 percent and households goods around 40 percent of the products sold by Pepco.

 

Pepco, established in 2004 in Poland, is now operating discount store chains in across Central and Eastern Europe. Pepco operates more than 1,200 stores in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania. In December 2017, the company is going to open its first store in Lithuania. Pepco employs 11,000 people in several countries.

 

Pepco belongs to the South Africa-based investment company Pepkor, which is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
